The Exchange Rate Dilemma
It have quickly becoming a fact that online purchasing have become a rave over the years where countries transfer billions in just matter of weeks. This especially apply for those hobby collector such as me collecting figure, nendoroid, anime DVD, wall scroll and other merchandises that may lurk collector alike to spend their hard earn money or credit on.
The problem comes when we are buying from another country which are not using the same currency as your country does. So, in order to do so you will need to know what the rate will be if converted into a foreign currency. If you didn’t do the math you may suffer from over purchasing from your credit limit.
I will take me for example. When I have decided on buying a book that I wanted from Amazon. The first step for me is to convert the currency[USD] in to my country currency[MYR] for instance the book cost me 15 USD from United States I will next find an up-to-date online currency converter to help me determine what is the price that I will be paying for the product that I will received. As of this date 15 USD = 51 MYR because for the exchange rate is 1 USD = 3.424 MYR.
A funny thing I discovered is when people saw a price tag 3 or any number below 10 being showcase they will think that it’s cheap without a second thought to look at what the currency might be. If it’s 3 Euro it will = to 14.7 MYR here in Malaysia and not 3 MYR!
After that I will make my purchase if I have enough credit on my card. It also apply to you if you are buying from Japan. For some of these e-commerce site they will provide you with a build in already converted currency that focus on to your country so everything is very easy and not much work needed to be done. Such site for example www.play-asia.com also take this into practice.
