“Engaged” is a Funny Word Indeed

16 February 2010 View Comments

“Engaged” is a funny word. Don’t you think? When used in certain situations of course.

I always encounter people using the word “Engaged” when someone is busy at something. Let say Yoko had a phone call and the phone needed her attention for it. Then, one of her friend says she is currently engaged. It’s weird isn’t? When you are being reply with it and sometimes I’ll wonder what did he/she engaged to? A phone if so then she is marrying to a phone right now?

The main stem of the word mean marriage but as time pass it grow to mean different things with an old image attach to it.

Here’s a conversation I usually encounter

Me: Can I have a minute with B?

A: She is engaged at the moment.

Me: (I think to myself.. what is she engaged with or to? On phone? Having a conversation with someone? Or she is currently at the church waiting for her hubby?) Ok…

I would usually reply with a simple “Ok”. So, how do you guys reply or what’s on your mind when someone says that word?

How many times did you encounter it?
