Man hole cover in Japan is way more different than you can imagine back home of a dull piece of black metal that lay on the ground.

Spotting these drain cover have become a pastime to some hobbyist and these people are call “Drainspotter”. To my surprise, there are even museum dedicate to this intrinsic hobby that have mushroom throughout Japan. After looking through the pictures I never knew that a manhole can be so attractive and creative at the same moment.

These pictures are from Remo Camerota the photographer who currently reside in Tokyo, Japan and have won many awards in his lifetime according to his profile page. Due to his interest in drainspotting he will be releasing a book about it this March/April under  Mark Batty Publisher you’re able to follow his update on this in his blog http://drainspottingbook.blogspot.com/

There are even a pool of pictures on flickr too.

There’s never anything interesting as a manhole cover that I’m able to find in Malaysia while all I see is a black cover and a word “DBKL” imprinted on it.
