The new idea in the gaming industry is to process games on cloud computers that are hosted on OnLive data centers then send its processed data through the web onto the player monitor. In other words, it’s gaming-on-demand. OnLive is still a relatively new startup in 2009 by Steve Perlman, CEO and Founder of OnLive, believe it will change the entire gaming industry.
Imagine playing Assassin’s Creed II or even fast pace shooter Borderlands on your low end PC. I’m pretty sure the pictures that comes up in your mind is the blue screen of death or the stupid lag on your screen because your graphic card is not strong enough to crunch those numbers! Arrgh!! Anyone who own a Mac will be laughing hysterically as OnLive also work on intel base Mac.
OnLive provide a year free membership to test drive their services on the market with a limited space. So, obviously first come first serve bases apply here. The registration only open in June 15 until July 15 in the US. So, international fans who are eager to use the service may need to take a number & wait. For SD (Standard Definition) gaming you only need 1.5 MBps while HD (High Definition) would require 4 to 4.5 MBps of connection.
The range of games they provide service on are plentiful because a lots of company are jumping into the bandwagon. Titles like Assassin’s Creed II, Borderlands, Deus Ex 3, Just Cause 2, Mass effect 2, Dirt 2, Prince of Persia, Batman: Arkham Asylum and so forth are hot games currently which demand a good PC to support it. Fear not! OnLive says that more games will be coming down the pipeline in the future.
What amaze me is that IT IS POSSIBLE to play borderlands on iPad and its done wirelessly.
After reviewing all the possible source of this idea it really does beg the question “will high price consoles ever lose its footing in the market?”, “Does it made console pointless to buy?”
