Fullmetal Alchemist – Brotherhood Ended
The whole things begins with a noble intention to save their mother by using alchemy but ended in dire catastrophe. So, both of the brothers set out on a journey to redeem themselves through learning a wide rage of techniques to regain their lost body parts as their main objective.
Seeing the whole anime series from its first episode until the last make me realize that Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is one of those rare gems that hardly come by with all the loose end tied up with a proper epilogue that suggest they might be a chance to further tell the story on behalf of the journey Edward & Alphonse takes traveling through different countries as one move west and another went east.
I won’t go into details on what has happen in the last and final episode as there are tons of others who have done the same. Rather, I would want to share on what I my take on the series and a very short summary. The first Full Metal Alchemist I watched was spectacular that followed up with a movie but deviated from the original manga storyline. On the second take they know this series can be revitalize by following the exact manga with little or no deviation from the script and it was a success! Launching a new line of merchandises sales on fire. Great tactics.. isn’t it? The company earn + the fans fall in love with series again = WIN!
Personally, I was expecting some kind of a big flashy fight between Flask (aka Father) with Edward by using mind blowing alchemy that Ed never used before in the series. For instance, tengen toppa gurren lagann and Eureka 7 contain epic fight scenes to have a proper closure for the series. So, I thought it would be the same in brotherhood as it’s also considered one of the best to me, but the trade-off for a happy ending was enough to make me happy. Tears nearly flow through my eyes while watching the end.
In a nutshell,
Hohenheim die next to his beloved wife Trisha with a peaceful yet happy smile.
The old geezer (codger Grumman) got what he always wanted to be — a Fuhrer of Amestris.
The Homunculi are totally wiped out but in the end Pride remain as one sole surviver because Ed can see the child of Pride within.
Scar have die twice in his lifetime and now come back anew to together with Miles in order reconstruct the Ishbal that was destroyed.
The couple — Edward finally confess to Winry on the day he leaves. Surprisingly, Ed found an alchemist’s way to do it: “It’s equivalent exchange! Give me your half life and I will give my half to you.” Yes! I face-palmed with Winry, She’s willing to give it all and there is never equivalent challenge when it comes to love anyway.
At the very last moment of the final episode Edward has given out a philosophical quote of what he have learned through his journey. A good quote indeed to remind those who are chasing their dreams & goals currently.
A lesson without pain is meaningless. You cannot gain something without sacrificing something in return. But once you have withstood the pain, you will gain a heart that is stronger than everything else. A Fullmetal Heart.
The movie of “Fullmetal Alchemist – Brotherhood” have been green light according to ANN. So, what do you think the movie will tell us about this time? Ed journey to the western world? Al mission to learn Alkahestry? or something more devious?
