You Gonna Love That Zombie Girl
Sankarea (さんかれあ) have a great combination of ecchi, romance, a bit on the horror but nothing too macabre, and comedy. I really hopes that an animated version of it would someday surface on the telly. However, there are currently only 10 chapters released on the market which hardly qualify for a season to be made into production. So, time is the only enemy for this great piece of work ready to be made into full-fledged season maybe in a few year times.
I demand for an animated series and if possible a Live-Action movie!
The story revolve around Chihiro Furuya, a nekomimi hair do zombie otaku. As the main protagonist in the manga he is obsessed with everything about zombies. Go figure! He collects any figurines, watches any movie, and plays any game with the living dead, and is even only interested in zombie girls. Oh, bad news for the ladies. But totally an great news for Rea, the girl who “accidentally” drank the undead potion made by Furuya himself in an effort to bring back his once dead feline.
Hydrangea is a plant that I never knew it ever existed until it was introduce to me when it was used to create the mystical zombie potion and as staple food for Post-Rea. This plant grow in most part of Asia but a large varieties of its kind only grow in Japan, China and Korea while we have islands in Portugal all cover with hydrangea. Anyway, hydrangea is best to be avoided as it will be poisonous if eaten. Did I mention that it changes color according to the pH level of the soil?
An interesting point to be noted, is that in Japan it is made in a herbal tea call Ama-cha (sweet tea) due to a substance it contain that develops a sweet taste. The history behind why the plant is made in to a tea came from a ceremony that is celebrate every year on the 8th of April. kan-butsu-e (the Buddha bathing ceremony) is the day thought to be Buddha’s birthday in Japan. And so Ama-cha is poured over a statue of Buddha in the ceremony and served to people in attendance.
After some digging, Ama-cha is certainly a rare tea that your local combini(Convenience store) don’t even sell it.
Zombie in the Mitsuru Hattori world literary eat hydrangea plant leaves to keep the body and the soul together. Compare it to the conventional practice of a free for all gore fest in practically every movies and games this is somehow soothing.
In my humble opinion, this is an amazing manga with a fairly nice character design and a captivating storyline to grab you and contain enough cliffhanger for you to wonder how the story would pan out in the next release.
Definitely worth a try if you’re interested!
