I can’t really describe the feeling behind all those 14 long weeks of college but one thing for certain — enjoy life while it lasted. I found myself running around in circles of a pre-defined program that I can’t fully understand well…. yet. You may already have known my course of studies is about Internet Technologies. From some strange angles that I still held does not reflect to what it should be teaching or I might be wrong for doubting it in the first place. Anyhow, I made it through the treacherous road already lay before me. There is a love/hate relationship going with this course and myself. While I, myself might find it easy to digest of the overall materials given others are loafing over it like they’ll be hanged tomorrow. Always same thing, same shit after an exam or getting their result slips.
I’ll be forthright here; I didn’t see much of what of the “Internet” is being taught here. I mean, what is it that information system got to do with things on the web, its inner workings, and the coding and so on. Although, I do gain an earth shattering understanding on the subject but I still don’t see how it relevant or am I and my mates are just being played? By the way, everything is still in theory and it won’t hurt to give us some enterprise information system to try out. Darn it! I want to taste it and not just remembering it.
Another question that I kept asking myself, “Why the heck am I studying C programming language?” It does sound weird to study the language that implements system software. For instance, most of Windows 7 is written in C, most games engine like id Tech series are in C or C++. Aren’t we supposed to focus on web languages like php, ASP, ColdFusion, and the likes? While studying C does give me the basic understanding on how’s the overall programming works but it still does not help me relate them. Maybe is it because that once you have learned C then you can easily be adapted to many other languages as well? Jack of all trade, master of none? I’m still not sure.
As always Week 9 till Week 12 is what I called “The Rush” as students will be concentrating in the college computer center (CITC) from morning till the late afternoon just to finish their given assignments usually received by the student early in the start of each semester. Jamming up 4 to 5 assignments can be a tough job but I tend to differ because the fastest you finish one then you can automatically concentrate on the next one on your plate.
Marks, MARKS, presentation and more MARKs. Sometimes, I just wish that lecturer would give out individual rather than team assignments. Taking control and leading the team is an easy task but when you encounter those slow performers in your team. You might as well drop the assignment and go for that vacation you always wanted or that ice cream you craved for. Maybe my leadership skill is not to a notch yet? I’ll need to improve on that one in the next semester and completely reorganize another team fitted for completing a task with god speed and precisions. Editing and modifying of received assigned parts is, in short, is tiring. The cake can’t be a lie… right? ne? ne? (Portal Pun intended xD)
For assignments done this semester I’m not seriously serious about them. However, I do have an interest in the ‘Web Development’ assignment I got. You know what’s the great thing is? We can work as Solo or as Partners. Yea, I’m always the lone wolf that kept fighting the odds that stacks against him with a lean and mean face on just to desperately scare off potential foes. I should join the Spartan program instead! Damnnnnnn.
I must admit that most of the free time I have are spend on multiplayer games that I played with my mates. Titles like Quake 4, COD: World at War, COD: Modern Warfare are some of the games we enjoyed. Killing one another is serious business because we always get the kicks from it after each session. Clinging on when will the next game starts. Ah! The joy of being young again. City kids don’t dream about feeding chickens a pastime but computers are serious business!
Honestly, there aren’t any lecturers I fancy this semester. Most might says our Business lecturer is awesome with his ways of teaching us but after some close inspection. He does not look honest or truthful at times. This maybe cause that he’s hiding something or just not happy with his current status. Earning 3K can be frustrating or he might be Pedo-Bear in disguise. Hey loli’s! It’s time to bring out those WMD you guys are stashing behind the closet. Without a sense of doubt, all will be automatically agree that our PIS (Principle of Information System) lecturer can surely take home the award of “I-Suck-At-Lecturing-Award”. Seriously, BIG TIME! I miss the good old days back in semester one with our lovely yet somehow alluring programming lecturer is no more than a memory now *sniff*.
In an airtight space with a robust carbon nanotube reinforced nutshell. Semester two is enjoyable while discarding the troubles I need to get through just to earned that 2 credit hours that the college so prized after. As they have said, after the rainy days comes clear skies. I got no more worries about extra curriculum activities that are compulsory and if not done right. You may need to pay an extra fine or the college will deny the diploma to you after you finish college.
