Last Exile Sequel Set to Be “Released” This Year!

Just recently, I picked up Last Exile, an anime that was aired back in 2003 and made possible by Gonzo. It’s a pity that I did not discover it earlier. Somehow it seems like a blessing in disguise because from the news I read its sequel is coming out in this spring. Yes, the project have been green-light and is ready to go.

After watching for 20 episodes with 6 more to go, I wanted more, almost very thing is so well done. First of all, it looked great. It sounded great. The characters were great. The story was great. The world was great. It wasn’t perfect and all, but it was an extremely good series. It’s definitely a masterpiece in my book even though I got a few more episodes until reaching the final conclusion on episode 26. I’ll be marathoning this as fast as my internet connection allowed me.

The returning title of Last Exile is call Last Exile - Fam, The Silver Wing which will be featuring a new storyline, new characters and new mechanical designs. Hopefully, some new airship designs or maybe a variant to the vanship itself. The news of the sequel was released in the event of the Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) which 1 in 3 exhibitor have been boycotting ever since Ishihara, the governor of Tokyo, launch his assault on anime and manga this year.

In the report, it is said that Gonzo will be taking the lead with the same team again but with a change of a new person in charge of the script who is Kiyoko Yoshimura. Albeit it’s exciting to see more of Range Murata works but the company is taking a stand on using a stereoscopic 3D approach. I’m not sure this would work well since 3D Home Theater is not so popular due to the price different and other factors between the usual and the latest in Japan or the US.

I think another thing that raises our alarm would be the fear of how Gonzo would miss utilizes 3D technology to doom the future development of using it on Anime rather than further improve future releases. It should be noted that it’s also the first undertaking to make a 3D anime in the industry. Stimulating as it seems we still need more information on the project.

Oh, did you notice that Last Exile was created to celebrate Gonzo’s 10^th anniversary while this sequel will mark its 20^th anniversary to date.
