Dead Space 3: A Beginner’s Guide to Survival
The icy planet that is now known as the Tau Volantis is the new setting for our hero, Isaac Clarke — an engineer suffering from dementia due to the influence of the Marker. He’s again fighting for his life in hope that all these will end and it might end if you play the game to find out. Well, I have finished the game just yesterday and I’m delighted to say that it an enjoyable ride as I take the time to slowly explore the game.
I take my sweet time to slowly explore every part of the game as I progress through the chapters. Risking Isaac life to explore new area in hope of getting more resources for my upgrades and finding more information on what really happen in Tau Volantis back in 200 years ago. It’s really exciting as I uncover different logs and audio recording as I try to piece the story together in my head.
Here’s my beginner’s guide for new player to benefit and veteran player to be aware of.
Be creative with your weapons
Dead Space 3 introduced a new system for you to craft different type of weapons based on the materials you have gathered. It’s really fun to test out whether a certain weapon configuration would work or not, and if not you can just take then apart again. Nothing is loss. Due to this I have created some powerful weapons in my arsenals to enable me to take control of a situation very effectively. Eg: My seeker rifle combined with electric bouncing bolas.
If you are lazy to play around with the system you can always opt for the blueprint option to build a suitable weapon that you like.
Don’t bother to create those upgrade circuits
I find that you can easily find upgrade circuits around the game without problem unless you are rushing through the game. Just be savvy enough. I won’t recommend you to rush it but to enjoy it slowly unless you are rushing to get a review piece out. Then, go figures. Be observant as they put out of sight from the player.
Veteran should play on hard
If you have played Dead Space before and like the tense situation then I would advice you not to touch Normal and go for Hard instead. For veteran like me Normal will be a breeze to stream through which proved to be right because my friend who is scared of Dead Space 1 & 2 can breeze through 3 on Normal with ease. So, after the first play through on Hard the resources and supplies are still a plentiful to loot. Maybe EA is trying to appeal to new players?
Explore!
Stray away from your waypoint and start exploring the exciting world of Dead Space have to offer. Take a look at the path that you didn’t visit and go do those optional missions. New pieces of story can be uncovered and not to mention you can find more loots at the end of every optional mission. I love getting those additional tool boxes! They contain so many extra materials for my upgrades xD
Scavenger bot is your best buddy
These little bots are wonderful! They help collect resources for you when you let them free to scavenge around a room. After certain amount of time they will come back to the bench and provide you with what they have gathered. Albeit it’s not much to celebrate about but is a good chunk when you have enough bots out there.
Be mindful of where you put these little guys because if you wrongly put them they will collect little to none back to your bench. Look at the screen and follow it to the exact location then you deploy it. Throughout the games you will get 3 scavenger bots to aid you in the game. However, I haven’t tested it out whether you would get another 3 more if you replay the game.
Always carry a Tungsten Torque bar
They indispensable when you are running low on resources and a storage room is nearby. You can use these torgue bar to unlock them. It works just like in the previous games with power nodes but this time it’s a bar instead. Most of the time you can find a lots of goodies in these locked away rooms.
Don’t upgrade your air module
It’s not necessary to even upgrade your air module on your suit as you have aplenty of oxygen tanks floating around space for you to refill. Not to mention those 240 seconds of air is enough for you to go around space. Unless you are playing it on Normal mode which you can max out everything without a worry like my friend did who is new to Dead Space.
If you are on Hard mode and resources definitely be scarce. It’s better to save up those resources and pump it to other upgrade like the stasis module. You can bet that it will do you more good in the long run as it can quickly help stop Necromorph from coming too close to you.
